“The fastest-growing industry in this town is emergency housing and security firms,” Carolyne Hall, a local resident, told me.
She’s lived near Fenton St for 25 years. Her current home, the place she and her husband built for their family - the place they thought would be their ‘forever home’ - has two motels on the boundary and one opposite. In the three years since the motels started housing the homeless, she says she’s witnessed domestic violence against women and children, gang fights and abuse of her fellow residents.
